Mechanic Portrait, Senior Session, Havana Il

Mechanic Chapin had a unique request.

A lot of his free time is spend working as a mechanic in the garage that he works at, so he wanted half of his senior session to take place there. I was excited to get such a unique request. The light was a challenge, but a little off camera lighting solved that problem and made for some dramatic, gritty images. The owner of the garage (I’m a bit bad at names and I’ve forgotten) was very obliging and even flattered that Chapin wanted his pictures there. He was wiping down tool boxes and sweeping floors and even offered to rearrange cars!

The second part of the session was held across the street from the garage. I’m not super familiar with Havana, so I’m not sure what the building use to be when it was open, but now it is the coolest old abandoned brick backdrop! I was super excited when I saw it and all the possibilities. I was running to one spot then the next. Chapin had a few really cool ideas too.

We had it all wrapped up in about an hour. I delivered the gallery about 5 days afterwards and his mom just gushed over them. Then she went on to say that Chapin was showing them to everyone. That’s what I aim to do, take pictures that you want everyone to see:)
